In a major move that boosts Tourism in Goa, Sea planes, helicopters
and amphibious vehicles would soon be available for tourists. A
Mumbai-based MEHAIR company is going to run the sea planes from Dabolim
airport (Goa International Airport) to different rivers across the
state. The Goa Tourism Ministry signed a contract with the firm and the
Sea Plane project will roll on from January 6. The Sea planes would land
in the Mandovi and Chapora river during the first phase and the
tourists will be directly flown from the airport to the heart of the
coastal state.
If this is not enough, Goa Tourism Ministry is planning to launch
Amphibious Vehicles for tourists which will take them from cities to
inland water routes. The tourism department is also ready with four
amphibious buses which would be launched in the state after proper
approval is obtained from the Union shipping ministry.
This is not all. Come Jan 15, the State tourism department is
launching private helicopter services from Dabolim airport to various
helipads. Pawan Hans will fly tourists from the airport to various
helipads in places like Aguada, Old Goa and Canacona. After recordeing
6.5 millioin tourists in 2015, Goa is expecting 7.5 million tourists in
2016.
